We happily re-introduce designer, Emily Koch (formerly known as Emily Browne). Do you remember her home tour? It was one of our very first posts. She has had a busy year, establishing herself as a designer and planning her recent May wedding. In addition she now has a new website where you can learn more about her and her work.
Earlier this year she completed the design of a home for an Atlantan bachelor. The achieved look is both classic and masculine, suiting the client's needs and personality.
Q & A
WL: First impression of the space?EK: Upon entering the condo for the first time, my thought was "I want to live here". The location is fantastic (above Varasano's Pizzeria on the cusp of Buckhead/Midtown).
WL: What was the design process?
EK: My process during this project involved:
- Initial meeting at his former apartment; assessed what he should keep and what needed to be replaced.
- Meeting at his home (while he was at work) with both lighting company and painting contractors to obtain quotes for him.
- Selection of paint colors for trim and walls. Oversaw painter and worked with lighting company to translate the home owner's vision for the monorail lighting (lighting followed curves of the soffits).
- Assisted with the selection of furniture, he had strong opinions of what he wanted, so I made sure that everything worked together and selected upholstery fabrics. Majority of the furniture is from Room and Board. The Eames chair is from CWC furniture dealer.
WL: Were there any design challenges?
WL: Do you feel like the space is "complete"?
EK: No, I would still like to add colorful abstract artwork and possibly sculptures. Would love to add Remote-control black-out Mecho shades and bold, large-scale patterned rugs that incorporate more color.
WL: Favorite thing about the condo?
EK: My favorite features are the stairs (I had the railings painted to match the new trim paint) and the VIEW!!!
