My Mom's Comin' to Town!

It's been about six months since my move to San Francisco and the day before we drove out of Atlanta was the last time I saw my mom. She had recently discovered that she had thyroid cancer and underwent one surgery a couple weeks before I left, and then another to remove the remainder of her thyroid just after. It was hard not being there when she got out of the hospital the second time. She is the sweetest, most loving person I know and I cannot wait to give her a huge hug.

Me + my mom on Easter, many moons ago...
Always stylishly feminine, she is a rocking a polka dot dress with a ruffled peplum-like detail.

Well Hello, It's Been Awhile.

A big surprise came for me the week after Christmas when I learned that I would be moving across the country from Atlanta to San Francisco. After job searching for about 8 months my boyfriend was called to fly out for an interview and a week later they made him an offer he couldn't pass up. I made the decision to move with him for a multitude of reasons... one being you guessed it - love. Also important was my own need for a change of scenery, I have had the itch to move since graduating high school nearly 10 years ago.

I had always planned on leaving Atlanta after college but timing and opportunities never seemed to line up. Georgia has been home to me for the past 16 years and I was slowly becoming what I had always feared - too comfortable. I am honestly still recovering from the frazzled state I was in during the 3 weeks I had to purge, sell, and pack what was left of my remaining belongings while trying to spend what time I had left with my family and friends. A shift occurred in the way I viewed my possessions and and I really began to understand how much it just stuff.

Atlanta Design Sponge Book Signing

Last week Jona and I had the pleasure of chatting with Grace Bonny of Design Sponge for a minute while she signed our copies of her new book. We couldn't resist the opportunity to snap a photo with the talented super blogger turned book writer.

Modern Atlanta { MA11 - part 1 }

During our summer fun we delighted in Modern Atlanta. For those of you that are unfamiliar Modern Atlanta (MA) Design Is Human began in 2007 as a week long event celebrating modern design. The celebration starts off with a preview party followed by a week of events, lectures, and exhibits. Everything wraps up with a weekend-long tour featuring some of Atlanta's finest modern homes. There is something grand about gathering with like-minded people to celebrate and support ideas and creations you feel passionate about.

The following are a few images we captured from the first three houses we visited. If you were unable to attend I hope you enjoy a few glimpses into the homes we explored, if you did attend I hope you enjoy revisiting.

 I Modern, You Modern, Let's Play.

Masculine Minimalism {EK Designs}

We happily re-introduce designer, Emily Koch (formerly known as Emily Browne). Do you remember her home tour? It was one of our very first posts. She has had a busy year, establishing herself as a designer and planning her recent May wedding. In addition she now has a new website where you can learn more about her and her work.

Earlier this year she completed the design of a home for an Atlantan bachelor. The achieved look is both classic and masculine, suiting the client's needs and personality.

Scouting at Scotts

We decided to see what all the buzz was about and took a short drive OTP to Scott Antique Market. We came across a lot of interesting pieces, but to be honest one could easily shop around Atlanta's large offering of antique and vintage stores for interesting finds and better deals. The $5 entry fee, however, is definitely worth what turned out to be an afternoon of inspiration.

London Calling

After some research I found that flying into London is a better deal than flying into Paris. It would be silly not to take advantage of the ease of travel between London and Paris so I have added in a few extra days to spend in London!! From there, I will take a train into Paris. Swoon. I couldn't be happier!

Antiques in the Afternoon

I recently spent almost an afternoon perusing antique stores for inspiration and a few items I plan to use in an upcoming project. I wandered through the Kudzu Antique Market, Decatur Estate, and The Fainting Couch.

{wouldn't these would look fantastic paired with a white tulip table?}

Westside Walk

Jona recently spent an afternoon photographing the Westside Provision District (part of the larger West Midtown Design District). WSPD is home to on-trend home design resources, art galleries, and variety culinary experiences.

If you are looking for something to make your mouth water check out JCT Kitchen, Bacchanalia, or Miller Union. For something that doesn't hit your wallet as hard there is West Egg, Star Provisions, or Taqueria del Sol.

Be Ignited {Post by Jona}

On a wonderful day in May, I sat in Octane Coffee Bar & Lounge to go through emails and to edit my little gifts of sight for you. The kind barista fixed me a caffeine surprise that consisted of three shots of espresso, chai and something spicy like paprika or red pepper (ironic considering this post). It was quite delish! As I was about to delete the above photograph (because it didn’t go with the theme of the planned post), I realized there was something special about it. The photo had been taken during a drive down to Florida with my friend, Kate, who urged me to pull over to the side of the road and capture it. The scene represents something that, at the time, inspired us to take the time to stop and smell the roses.

Paper Love

I became a fan of Paper Source while working as a printing consultant in the Paperie department of Sam Flax while in college. During my time at Sam Flax, I acquired a newfound appreciation for typography, printing techniques, and a love for paper.

Paper Source's wonderful assortment of solid paper and envelopes were a go-to solution for many of the unique announcements and invitations I helped clients design. They are available in variety of styles, sizes, and colors that can easily be mixed, matched, and layered.
